Seems a long struggle to get something just for learning with. Pro Engineer used to be one of the best - CATIA was my main tool when designing in 3D.

I want the functionality of the best 3D systems in Linux. My main aim was to get a full 3D system working. I did install draftsight a while back on Maverick 10.10 - 32 bit. If Inventor creates a Linux package for drafting I would go straight out and buy it. 30 days is barely enough to get into using it. Positive thing though it runs in Linux 64 bit. If I click on a face I want to work on it. Which I would expect to be clearly identified. simple things like grid and 2d and working on planes is not obvious to find looks to be too many icons on the screen. it writes STL so why will it not read them. ( for my existing models ) ? insert model Įxports in a few things - STL so should get files to Blender. going to take 30 days to work out how to use it. (why not just the middle mouse button as in most other 3d modellers)Ĭould they not add a few more keys to press. just to rotate a part ctrl + shift + any moue button The keystrokes and manipulation is a nightmare. Have just installed the 64 bit Linux version of Varicad.

If I could only find a Inventor or Solidworks program that ran under Linux. Soon to install it under 10.10 and see what I think. Been using Draftsight now for a couple of months in the windows world and like it. I really dislike Autocad overall, way too much crap built into a program to draw lines. I am a Inventor user, 3d modeler, and been using 3d programs from the mid 80's to now.
